Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) is a supply chain initiative where the supplier assumes the responsibility of managing inventory levels for the customer. In the context of maintenance, VMI can ensure a continuous supply of critical spare parts and materials, reducing stockouts and administrative overhead for the organization, while allowing vendors to optimize inventory levels based on actual consumption patterns.
